To understand your dog, you must first learn how breeds differ. All dogs are not created equal! Our dogs know this, so it is up to humans to learn how dogs communicate with each other, how their minds work and ensure that we are enabling them to be the best they can be. can you give me info on how to try to get a so-called ban reversed in a county you live in. I have researched it on internet and my town or county is NOT listed yet the police say its in force. I have a beautiful year and half old male Pit that I have told people is half mastiff and half boxer so as not to draw attention to him for fear they will try to make me get rid of him. I want to legally keep him because I will REFUSE to give him up. Where should I start?
The parameters of the law don’t generally allow for a ban reversal as it takes a majority opinion to pass it in the first place. You’re up against a lot of red tape if the county already has a thing against them. Something you can do to combat this issue is train him to pass an AKC good citizen test or get a Dr./Therapist to approve him as a therapy dog. Either of these methods will mandate that authorities let you keep the dog as they would be violating a federal ADA (American Disabilities Act) if they didn’t. At least this is how it works in California. It’s a good idea to continue referring to your pup as a Mastiff Boxer. Since there is no way to prove otherwise (without a dna test) it will protect you against liability for insurance and other purposes. 🙂
